Now, to the best of my knowledge, Munster made a decent play for Jason Holland as well, who, of course, used to play for Munster back in the day.
I'm not going to say it was close to happening, but I think Munster were confident at the time that he would sign on before he decided to stay in New Zealand, where, honestly, like for any New Zealand coach, I understand why they'd stay at the moment, because there kind of feels like there is a pathway to the national setup.
And, you know, Clayton McMillan obviously last year thought his door was closed momentarily.
That's why he came north.
started the season unbelievably munster had five wins on the trot including beating leinster and crow park uh not leinster's normal stomping ground the the home of ga that one and it felt like everything was going to go well then they proceeded to win like four of their next 14 games in a dire middle season they saved at the end of the year you know a lot of injuries when they went to pretoria and obviously your listeners will know from
the time of Pretoria in Super Rugby.
It's a tough place to go to at the best of times with altitude.
And Munster fell at the URC quarterfinal stage as they did last year.
But I suppose the verdict for me is on field, maybe not as far along as we would have liked.
I think the clash of styles between Macmillan and Mike Prendergast, who was a highly thought-after attack coach here in Ireland, he's now leaving Munster, which caused the going out to seek an attack coach.
I don't think they ever really meshed properly.
I think Macmillan, when he was at the Chiefs, played a lot more of a simpler brand of rugby than what Prendergast wanted.
And I think that would actually suit Munster's strengths a lot more.
What we ended up seeing was Jack Crowley and Craig Casey carrying a huge burden.
You know, your halfbacks are always going to be important.
That's natural.
But we ended up seeing that if they were even 1% off, Munster were 5% off.
That was the kind of level that we were at.
I do think, to Macmillan's credit, though, he has spotted weaknesses.
He's gone after signings.
