The Metropolitan Police Service said the suspects, one Iranian national and three dual British-Iranian citizens, were detained early Friday during counterterrorism operations in and around North London.

Authorities believe the men were conducting surveillance of specific sites and individuals.

In a statement, Commander Helen Flanagan, who is in charge of London's counterterrorism policing, said, quote, We understand the public may be concerned, in particular the Jewish community.
