It's really quite an achievement, I think.
Maybe we should backtrack, though, to talk a bit more about Patricia Lockwood, because she's utilised Twitter as a poet for many years and she'll just throw these lines out or little sort of quite absurd or tangential comments, images out.
She also wrote a memoir called Priest Daddy.
I didn't read that one, but people loved it.
Now, I both read this in the print form, but also listened to it on audiobook.
And I'm leaning towards the audiobook.
Is it her reading it?
No, it's not, actually.
That was one of the first things I wanted to know.
But just the decisions she makes in halfway through a sentence to create the metaphor that she's going to complete that sentence with.
Yeah.
So she just builds this world up.
So sort of contemporarily, like it's very now, but it's also using some of the finest traditions of the English language.
Quite an achievement.
And on the strength of that, she became... If you don't understand that, don't worry.
There is no sense to it, and you never find out why this set the world on fire, but it did.
She's famous, absolutely famous for this one tweet.
It's nutty stuff.
It really is totally nuts.
But then, as you alluded to, the second half of the novel is very different.
