All right, well, with your four seconds of glory and Stu's years of analysing the surf and surfing culture, I think we have a crack team assembled here.
Well, let's just turn to the book, Bluebird.
Bluebird Beach isn't a real place, but it does seem very familiar.
And I guess it begins, this book begins with the overview of a, well, it's a seagull, right?
Even though I found it a little bit confusing later on who that overview was from.
And the seagull is introducing us to the players of the book.
And that is Gordon Grimes, the central character.
His, well, estranged, but maybe not estranged wife, Kelly.
They've recently separated because of an incident with a mate called Dogg.
And they also have a son called Ben.
But Gordon and Kelly and Ben are all living in this house called The Lodge, which is perched above Bluebird Beach.
And Kate, Canute, spelled C-N-U-T-E.
I thought it was one of those sort of initials games, a bit like F-C-U-K.
You know what I mean?
What about you, Stu?
Does that ring true of the surfing crowds, a certain element of the surfing crowd that you've encountered?
Well, I actually don't think he loves Bluebird Beach, really.
And I don't think he actually wants to be there.
I think he's bound by a sense of duty and of keeping the old times alive.
And I think that this is the central drama, if we call it that, of the book.
