Perceived wisdom until about 20 years ago was that chimpanzees, their communication, especially their vocal communication, is very emotional and doesn't actually contain a lot of semantic content about the external environment. We now know that this is very different. It's a very different picture. There is a lot of meaning-based information in their single calls and their repertoires.

They are produced in a nesting context. So every night chimpanzees build a nest far from the forest floor and usually with other chimps together. And this is when they produce this combination in this very specific context. So we see a kind of meaning shift here.
