Because I love Emma herself, the character.
I love her foible and I love her inability to see clearly and I love the flash of realisation there.
when it came upon her that Mr Knightley must marry no one but herself.
And of course, it could be seen as a sort of small romance, but it's more than that.
It's the entire world in that little village.
There's a writer called Sandra Newman who has just produced a new work called The Heavens and it's a sort of time travel book set in Renaissance England and modern day New York and to describe it is to minimize it because the thing that she is is
bitingly funny.
She might be the funniest writer around at the moment and also surreal and strange.
And I finished it feeling dismayed it was over and glad that maybe I could now begin again.
I need that book.
