They printed a one-of-one, one-ring card in the Lord of the Rings set.
And that card famously was bought by...
post malone for no way i think two million dollars so post malone's collecting magic the gathering oh yeah dude he's a big magic player wow does he compete or he just collects that i don't know he'll pop up every once in a while on youtube in like a there's a bunch of different magic the gathering youtubers and sometimes they'll be in like one of their casual games or something i don't i don't know if he plays like pro level or interesting are you more on the competition side or collecting side you said collecting side for sure i mean i play with my friends and shit but like i'm not i don't go to tournaments yeah those guys are different
Totally.
I used to do that in college.
And I'm just like, the amount of time it takes.
It's like that game.
I think they have 20,000 cards at this point in the 30-whatever-year history of it.
To be really good at that game, you have to know basically what all of those do in combination with one another.
You have to anticipate what the other person's deck might have in it in order to know what you should play or not play or blah, blah, blah.
It's the amount of time invested and the knowledge base you have to have to be really good at that game is like...
I'll just never have that.
That's insane.
And once you have your deck, can you change it, like, if you're in a tournament, or do you have to use the same deck the whole... It depends on what... I mean, God, this gets so nerdy, but there are different formats, basically.
There's a format called Standard, which uses all the sets of the current year, basically.
And it's a 60-card deck, and it's streamlined to, like, win as quickly as possible, and that's hyper-competitive.
There's also Limited, which is where you're, like, opening packs and making a deck out of what you get in those packs versus somebody else who's opening packs and blah, blah, blah.
And then there's the most popular.
I mean, there's a bunch of formats, but the most popular one is called Commander, which is a hundred card deck.
No card in it can be repeated.
