Everyone else would be like, this isn't gossip.
But, you know, I've been like meeting the whole city.
You go on these things called water bottle tours every time you have a big project coming out.
Anyways, I was meeting with some IP executives who really only work in books and IP.
And they said the amount of incoming calls they've had in the past six months...
strictly asking for hockey romance.
Because I joked, I was like, I'm really worried that the town has taken the wrong lesson from why people liked Heated Rivalry, which I would say the lesson of Heated Rivalry being a great television show, the lessons to take would be like really great artistic showrunners with singular visions like Jacob Tierney, authentic romance that feels really invested in the romantic story, incredible sex scenes.
and specificity and an openness to non-hetero love stories.
Those would be the lessons I would be like, oh, so I would go out and I'd be like, oh, what are other great romance books?
Like that are just so, such a good book.
This world deserves to come alive, no matter if it's gay, straight, whatever.
That was the lesson I would be taking.
Instead, I was like, I'm really worried people took the lesson of like, they must really want to see some hockey games in between kissing.
And yeah, so that's my tea, that these IP agents were like,
I get a call every single day from someone being like, what's a book about hockey and kissing?
So yeah.
So I thought that was really funny where I was like, oh no, it's true.
A lot of people were like, okay, hockey romance, hockey romance, hockey romance.
So I guess if you're a writer out there and you've got a hockey romance, you could write in an hour, maybe self-publish that shit like immediately.
I'm seated.
