When asked by NPR for a response to the Kennedy Center's rebuttal, Zambello only re-shared the board president's statement.
In an email to NPR, Washington National Opera Board of Trustees President Andy Farrow said the company, quote, "...has no plans to move out of the Kennedy Center and is proud to be part of America's cultural center."
The statement came hours after The Guardian published a story quoting Washington National Opera artistic director Francesca Zambello as saying her company may quit the Kennedy Center as a result of President Donald Trump's takeover.
Trump declared himself chair of the institution in February, firing and replacing its board and leadership.
Zambello told The Guardian her company is being forced to consider other options owing to tumbling ticket sales and audience protests.

Catalan's 18-carat gold toilet is as eye-popping as it is infamous.
The Guggenheim in New York encouraged visitors to use the artwork as a regular toilet when it was installed at the museum in 2016.
100,000 people lined up to do just that.
Three years later, it was stolen while on show at Blenheim Palace in England.
The artwork has never been recovered.
In an unusual move for an auction house, Sotheby's says the starting bid for the only other existing version of America will be determined by the price of the artwork's weight in gold.
It will rise and fall with the gold market until the hammer falls.
At today's rate, that's a flush $10 million.
June Lockhart was one of television's most beloved mothers.
She cared for an adopted son and a famous dog as Ruth Martin in the popular series Lassie from 1958 to 1964.
And later in the 1960s, Lockhart explored far-off planets as the matriarch Maureen Robinson in the kitsch adventure series Lost in Space.
