You might have missed Labor's plans to overhaul gambling advertising this week, and according to some, that's exactly what the government was hoping for.
In the second half of this episode, we deep dive the government's plan, why it was released on Budget Day and how it falls short with one very vocal critic.
First, though, let's get into the headlines with Sasha Barbagat.
It's Thursday the 14th of May.
This will be a landmark policy for the coalition, which has been struggling in recent years to present meaningful legislation platforms.
In presenting the idea, Taylor will argue that welfare should be limited to, quote, those who have built and contributed to our country.
In another policy announcement, the coalition will unveil a plan to link migration numbers to the amount of new homes built in the previous year.
Yeah, and I can see this one being popular with the voters that the coalition has lost to One Nation.
This does sound something that's very much up their alley.
It'll be interesting to see how he talks about it tonight.
We do know he was the shadow treasurer under Peter Dutton.
Like, you know, Angus Taylor was shadow treasurer for three, at least three years.
So this is something and this is the area that he does have expertise in.
So like I said, very interesting to hear how he'll be talking about it tonight.
Overseas now, and Donald Trump has touched down in Beijing ahead of his highly anticipated talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The leaders are set to meet today and tomorrow, and they're expected to discuss the four Ts, Tehran, trade, tech and Taiwan, in a summit the US president delayed by six weeks because of the war on Iran.
And in a big show of those economic priorities, Trump has brought along more than a dozen of the US's biggest business and tech bosses, Elon Musk, Nvidia's Jensen Huang, Apple's Tim Cook, plus executives from Meta, Boeing, Goldman Sachs and Visa,
are part of this big delegation that Trump has brought with him.
