him though because it's literally his job right to be financially savvy yeah yeah um i mean less so in those days in the 80s it was more about products and getting the right investment for somebody um but yeah i i agree with you that was that was his role was people looked to him for financial advice and he went bankrupt it was all part and parcel of of why it destroyed him yeah absolutely yeah and what did what did he do after nothing
Nothing at all.
How old was he when this happened to him?
Well, I need to do maths and I can't do that that quickly, but he probably wasn't far off my age now.
Yeah, but nobody would employ him.
So I ended up employing him when I started my business as a kind of way to help him into retirement.
I didn't tell him that, obviously.
No, it was the other way around.
Running a business isn't something that makes you feel light.
It's something that makes you feel heavy, especially a small business when you've got everybody's mortgages depending on you.
Amen.
But, yeah, a lonely place.
But no, actually employing him was great because I got to spend some really nice time with my dad.
And we had a lot of laughs in those first few years of Ovation when it was just me and him.
He made me giggle quite a lot.
And he also dispensed some very wise advice.
But I respect him for the fact that he did.
and he was a brilliant support, and he kept his mouth shut when he would still be making mistakes.
My favorite thing that he did on several occasions was somebody would do something stupid from a big product provider, and they wouldn't have done what they said they were going to do.
It would cause a big problem to the client, and I would rant, and I would rave, and I would write out this email.
