A palliative care nurse in Australia who towards the end of her career wrote a book about what she learned from being with people as they die.
And that was my passion.
So I'll tell you what my story is exactly that, if you'll allow me.
So when I was 19, I was going to university after a year off.
My dad, so I'm late 50s, so we're talking 40 years ago.
And my dad, who was a financial advisor, came from a very working class background.
And he said to me, what are you going to do at university?
Teachers said to me, what are you going to do?
I don't know.
I have no passion, particularly on education.
So they all said, what are you good at?
Okay, well, the three A-levels I'm doing economics is the one I'm best at.
So dad said, great, be an accountant because I can make good money.
And I can't be an accountant.
Sorry, accountants, but I just couldn't do that.
So we kind of compromised on an economics degree.
I absolutely hated my economics degree.
And when I look back years later, I realised it was because, so why did I go down that path?
Because my parents and my teacher said to me, what are you good at?
They never asked me, what do you enjoy?
