I remember one night at the Junction Oval, we were standing there and, uh,
We were a pretty good side.
Steve and Phoebe had kicked three or four goals.
I happened to be sitting in the coach's box, and Neil gets on the phone just before three-quarter time and said, get Phoebe off, and I've grunted, going, oh.
Then he turned to me and he said, do you want a buddy coach, Bill, do you?
Thanks, Gerard.
Yesterday was a sad day for us all, but I think 24 hours later we're starting to reflect on the greatness of
of Neil Danaher, the person that he was and what he meant to us all.
So it's good to be able to have a talk about him with you.
Yeah, in some ways, I think he represents the Aussie spirit.
You know, you think of the Anzac spirit and those sorts of things.
Those guys had to go through Neil Danaher
Neil was a lot like that, I think.
You know, he struck a fair bit of adversity a lot of the way through his life, both with his injuries when he was such a good footballer that cut his career short, and then with this.
And I just think what he's done is he's taught us all in a very real way how to deal with adversity in a positive way, to not give up, to keep fighting,
such wonderful attributes to have.
And, you know, he's lived that all the way through.
It's just been amazing to watch it and witness it.
Obviously, I'm a good friend of his, and I knew what he was like when he was healthy, and I watched the degeneration of his body and everything over the last 11 or 12 years.
