To replace Cornyn, the Texas Republicans chose the scandal-ridden, deeply corrupt Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who received Trump's endorsement precisely because of his vices.
Paxton's rottenness makes him a Trump kindred spirit and also guarantees that he will be dependent on Trump's goodwill and hence is slavishly loyal.

And my reading of that particular race is that it's a toss up between the Democrats and the Republicans.
Maybe this choice of this particular individual tilts it a little bit to the Democrats.
I know some people are hoping that.
But at the end of the day, does anybody care what's going to happen at the midterms?
Because Trump will be in the White House.
If one or both of the houses flips to the Democrats, that's two years of stasis.
About the only thing that Trump can do during those two years, actually, I think, is wage war.
I know technically he needs Congress, but he's shown repeatedly that he's willing to ignore that constitutional imperative.
