it was only $5 billion, but there has been a truly massive amount.
We are currently looking across a five-year period at $115 billion that sits off budget.
Again, I hate myself for knowing that number without having to check it.
But yeah, Australians deserve better.
And it's such a nude thing.
We would be outraged if businesses were rorting their accounts, you know, if the auditors were failing to jump up and down about all this sort of stuff.
The behavior is bad because we let it be bad.
Yeah, the technology changed.
So you might have thought the NBN was a good and safe investment and you could set it off budget there because it was going to be okay, but the technology changed and we've lost money.
You look at the Snowy Hydro, turns out it was โ
uh a lot harder to dig uh a lot more expensive and a lot slower to dig than we thought so it might have been reasonable to to put it off budget uh to begin with but here we are we now know we've lost a fortune um there are all sorts of uh things or you know um uh some of our money these days uh props up aluminium smelters uh because there are votes in it or they props up the uh
production of Tim Tams, and I love Tim Tams, but I don't want my taxpayer dollars supporting it at the cost of everything else.
We let crap happen.
That's on us much more than it is on the politicians.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And it is worth going back a couple of decades when migration was a clear positive for Australia.
But because we have not built, or when we built, we haven't built in the right place, or when we built, we haven't, you know, the rules and regulations have made it stunningly expensive.
And that isn't the fault of the migrants.
Again, that's on us.
We've screwed up.
