We saw that there were things like bulletproof cameras
Glass that was introduced and some difference in security details and things like that.
Do you think we're going to see more changes moving forward?
I know that Trump has, you know, he's carrying on business as usual and he's speaking like it's business as usual.
But behind the scenes, are there changes going on at the moment?
I think we will see probably changes for the president when he is out at other events, whether it's this president or other presidencies to come.
I do think, though, we should be a little bit cautious about overhyping the threat that this was.
You know, this is an event that is on the relatively minor end.
of presidential security scares.
And there are sort of these events that are just the cost of living in a free society and sort of balancing that risk between presidential accessibility and security.
I can think back to during President Clinton's time, there was a man that opened fire with an AK-47 from the sidewalk outside the White House, spraying the building with gunfire
You know, there was another time in President Clinton's era when a small plane was stolen and crashed onto the White House lawn.
I think actually security professionals will think of this event more at that end of the spectrum.
Then they will, in terms of sort of thinking of this as, you know, when Ronald Reagan was actually shot at the Washington Hilton in 1981 or events like, you know, the two assassination attempts that President Gerald Ford very narrowly survived in a matter of weeks when he was president.
Well, Garrett, we thank you for joining us to unpack it on the podcast.
And I will speak on behalf of every Australian listening.
We are so very grateful to be living down under and not experience all the things that you guys have to experience there in the States.
Thanks for making the time.
Absolutely.
I think every time that this subject comes up in the United States, which is far too often that Australia got it right in gun control when you all confronted that issue a couple of decades ago.
