Were the Mets a real threat even after the Luis Robert trade?
I mean, possibly.
They have a lefty, a rookie, Carson Bench, that is potentially going to play left field for them.
Maybe they wanted a more established guy.
Maybe they wanted a little bit more insurance against Polanco playing first base.
And you wonder why the Yankees heavily front-loaded this.
Because that's the type of deal the Mets were going to give them.
A very heavily front-loaded deal.
So the Yankees didn't get one over on Scott Boris.
They got their player...
And I don't know, was there a true bidding war?
Because Hal said he wasn't going to get into one, but maybe there wasn't.
But maybe they just threw that $2.5 million on top of the $160 million just to say, hey, let's end this.
And again, it's way more money than anybody else was offering him, way more years than anybody else was offering him.
The market is what the market was.
Dude, you can't say that Scott Boras lost to Brian Cashman.
I would even argue if you say that maybe these guys split this one.
Maybe they did.
