District Court Judge Christopher Cooper writes, The Kennedy Center's organic statute makes crystal clear that the center is to be named for President Kennedy, and it cannot bear any other formal name or public memorial based on the board's unilateral say-so.
Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress can change it.
Judge Cooper also ruled that the center could not wind down its programming and close for two years of renovations, at least for now.
He wrote that the board did not have sufficient details to make an informed decision about the closure.
All of the current board's voting members were selected by Trump.
The Kennedy Center told NPR it plans to appeal the decision.

I think what's different here is this is not based on a court case.
So we redistrict in North Carolina the way most people watch the Super Bowl.
It seems like it's about once a year.
But usually, actually always, those have been in response to court decisions.
A court says that a map is not legal for a variety of reasons, and then the General Assembly or a third party redraws it.
This one's different because it is the General Assembly deciding to do this very explicitly because Donald Trump asked them to.
I think this is sort of the Babe Ruth-y era of redistricting, right?
They're calling their shot and they're putting the ball exactly where they told us they were going to.
He's saying what he wants to do.
And the intent is to draw more Republican districts.
