But what you have is two parties who both created bills that were designed to fail, not designed to pass.
And I want to talk about that in a few minutes.
My guest today, John Conyers III.
He is the son of
the famous congressman from the Detroit area, from Detroit, not area, from Detroit, John Conyers, the late John Conyers.
He was elected back in the mid-60s, one of the essentially the earliest of the civil right era African-American congressmen to come in and be a leader of that movement.
What's interesting about John Conyers III, his son, wrote a book.
He's unique.
His father was in his 60s when he was born.
So he is a millennial who's not two generations removed from a leader of the civil rights era, but just one generation.
And he writes about that.
He writes what it's like to sort of
grow up when you're handed a name that indicates that you must already have your future laid out for you.
I will just encourage you to listen to this interview.
It's a very candid conversation.
He very much, I feel like, I don't know him before.
I didn't know him before this, but he doesn't strike me that he was BSing me.
That's the way I would put it.
I think it's a fascinating conversation.
And he's interested in charting his own path politically.
