What happened?

They originally thought it was something not that serious, like the flu.

But all of a sudden, she was in the ICU.

So I'm not really sure exactly what was going on.

Oh, God.

So Quintana is in a really serious condition.

And people said that they had just never seen John like that before.

He was beside himself.

He was distraught.

Yeah.

Um, and so then on December 30th, 2003, John and Joan are sitting down to dinner in their New York apartment and it was an ordinary night.

Their daughter Quintana was still in the hospital.

She's very sick.

Um, they just come back from visiting her and then Joan goes to the kitchen and John is sitting at the table and then suddenly John was talking and then he wasn't.

His left hand was raised and he was slumped motionless.

And Joan said, don't do that.

Like, I don't know if his body just went in this weird way.

He didn't respond.

So she thought that he had choked on something.

So she tries to lift him up to do the Heimlich, but he falls onto the table because he's, she's a small woman.
