Finally, though, we have some very good news this week.

Renewables are outpacing fossil fuels for electricity production for the first time in the EU.
And this follows an earlier report in pretty much the same thing for UK renewables.
This is a huge deal.
On roughly a third of days in 2025, renewables generated at least half of Britain's electricity.
So that's according to a BBC analysis of the data.
But the grid does still sometimes rely heavily on fossil fuels.
27% of electricity in 2025 was generated from gas, and that's up from 2024.
By a quite small percentage.
By 29%.
