So, by all accounts, Major John was a hands-on in all of his careers, working physically demanding jobs that reflected his blue-collar lifestyle. And luckily, his job allowed his wife Kaylee to stay home with their three children. At the time of our story, all was well with the Kaler family. They were happy, healthy, they had stability, and they lived in a good home at 515B Brown Avenue.

He volunteered at the Wallace Elks and spent the previous Memorial Day traveling with his ROTC group to local cemeteries to honor fallen soldiers with a 21-gun salute. He also enjoyed carrying the colors in Veterans Day parades.
