From here, Jessica and the two children were taken to a local hospital. Fortunately, all three showed no signs of physical injury. However, there were emotional scars. The three were also placed under protective custody since Joseph Castoreno was still on the run. But that night, Jessica had to let her family members know that he had finally done what they'd all been afraid of all along.

Jessica's uncle, Ubaldo Codina, spoke with Fox 31 Denver and admitted they were all afraid of Joseph. He had threatened to kill Jessica and her family on numerous occasions, and he finally made good on that threat. They also knew that he was not one to follow protective orders.
