And they're a rarity.
like against the best fullbacks around and they're skinning them that was I was texting one of my friends last night when do you ever see Nuno Mendes getting beaten on the outside on the inside routinely every time Alisa was like I'm going past this chap and he's the best fullback in the world the Alisa stuff was a joke every one on one it was frightening because it just happened in the first like two three four minutes where it was just a one on one
Yeah, because some, just on Elise's, Elise's specifically, sometimes he puts a little bit of a flourish on his dribbles, like to try and, it's just deception as well.
Whereas, as you said there, the first one he just went, well, I'm just going to set the terms of engagement here.
I can go out to get around the outside too.
Just if you think I want to cut inside all night, I'm not going to buy you.
And he's gone.
like the defending wasn't so bad so bad as to negate the sheer brilliance that we're seeing from attacking players therefore like of course it's a great game you know of course it's a great game I take Colin's point on the 5-2 aspect as in it wasn't quite the to and fro that the scoreline might suggest and yet that felt like a weird spell in the match where every time PSG went forward they scored it was like three successive attacks including the penalty which probably shouldn't have been awarded the PSG penalty that is
And then it did occur to me, and I almost undervalue a touchline ban for a manager, but when it went 5-2 and companies in the stand and not allowed to communicate with the sideline and hadn't been chatting to the players at halftime and Aaron Danks, formerly of Aston Villa, is faced with this scenario where it really could have got out of hand for them and not for the fact that PSG didn't change their approach, that Bayern were able to almost ride
this onslaught and start counter-punching again, it really could have been tie over last night, I think.
So Kompany's loss was actually a significant one.
I did think, ironically, and you mentioned the defending wasn't abhorrent, like there was some actually impressive moments where Upamecano, for example, and Jonathan Tah were getting pulled into the vacated full-back positions and one-on-one repeatedly and getting feed in and turning over the ball cleanly and springing attacks.
And the same was true for PSG.
So ironically, it was probably systems failures precipitated by amazing sequences of attacking play that undid them for the goals.
I wouldn't, with the exception of Leimer when he slipped, where you can point to, okay, that's where that goal came from.
I just think you have to give credit to what was wondrous attacking play on both sides.
That's kind of where I fall.
One small style point that I have to take away and it's of no fault of the players and the pitch but and to my eye it looked offside the Diaz goal where Kane plays that lovely pass and the sequence of control and the finish is unbelievable but then you've got that important thing where he thinks or everyone thinks he's offside he's wagging his finger you can't believe that because everybody does that and then he's clearly onside and it's arguably the goal of the night
Like he, I think even his biggest fans at Liverpool never thought he had this in him.
Yeah, because that hard running ability was his calling card.
