This is bigger than an East Asia problem.
The Belt and Road Initiative that's going on all over the world that China is funding, using ports for dual use, military, commercial, their influence around the world is significant.
And so it's more than a regional initiative.
I do agree that we need to get our regional partners stepping up their game in terms of their defenses, and that's something the U.S.
can do, just like we're encouraging NATO to supply more of their own defense.
But at the end of the day, we are competing with a very aggressive global power who is intent on setting the rules for the road, and so we cannot ignore that, and we need to be
vigilant.
And in the case of Taiwan, we need to follow the Taiwan Relations Act to help them defend against China taking them over.
