I believe it's not healthy long-term for a child. Now, everyone else may have a different view, but I've always believed that the truth prevails. And that's just the way I would lead it. I would live it and make sure that I can get them to pay the responsible thing. But to keep clarity and honesty within your children that that's the value that they learn and not the manipulation for the survival.
