The thing about that contract that is so strange is they weren't giving that money to anybody.
They let all their guys go because they had to have thought this was going to be a special player.
They had to have thought that.
It's multiple things here.
He's a first-round pick who, in terms of talent, had a higher upside.
He actually started Game 1 of this season, if you look all the way back, and then never started again.
But he actually compared his own situation to Duncan Robinson's.
He said, I should probably talk to him because he's a guy who excelled, got paid, and then after getting paid, ended up with zero minutes in the rotation only to then earn his way back and play well enough to get another big contract with Detroit.
So that's a guy who he would look to.
And the reason they paid him and not a Vincent or a Struess or Caleb Martin, who they tried to pay, was because of the age.
Those guys were in their mid to even later 20s.
Jovic was 22 when he signed this contract because he was drafted so young.
And Jeremy, we talked about it.
They completely renovate their offense.
They change everything, thinking that Jovic is going to be a big part of what they do.
that would benefit the most.
And Hawkins has done it and Jovic didn't.
