Today, contributing editor of the New Daily, Amy Remekis, on what this week reveals about Labor, the right, and the pressure on both.
It's Saturday, April 25th.
Amy, good to see you again.
The biggest story of the week, the one that will affect the lives of millions of Australians, were the changes announced to the NDIS by Health Minister Mark Butler.
What case did he make for the changes and what do you make of the timing of the announcement?
We will get to that, Amy, I assure you.
It's been a few days now since the announcement and we know that it has caused a lot of anxiety across the community.
What's the reception been like from advocates today?
If we think about all this in the frame of the upcoming budget, there was a Senate Select Committee hearing this week on the taxation of gas resources.
Who fronted the committee and what was on the table for discussion?
I loved his delivery.
It was like he was sitting in a bar with a beverage in his hand, just telling the bartender his woes around tax reform.
It was like, who was going to ask them about their revenues at a Senate select committee?
Attacks on gas exports appears to have public support.
We know it has backing in the parliament from the crossbench largely.
But at a moment of global economic instability with Australia trying to manage key relationships with major trading partners, there are noises that are getting louder and louder that indicate that the government is not going to touch this.
Is that what you're hearing and is that what you expect the government to do?
Coming up, is One Nation's popularity a mirage or the new normal?
Amy, this week we saw the first sign of a possible chink in One Nation's armour.
A number of polls are showing a drop in support for One Nation.
