This was back in April of last year, and they were actually successful.
So there was a refusal for planning permission by the council.
And though it wasn't actually due to the grounds that they were objecting on, they said that Covello hadn't planned for more residential units on the site.
So it actually, in the end, had nothing to do with the objections that had been filed by the
as we said, many others in the local area in Killiney as well.
And that's left the door open now for what we have here, which is a different proposal for the apartment block after the previous proposal for the four-bed houses was rejected.
So they kind of won in the end, but not because they objected, but on other grounds.
Yeah, it's an interesting example, I think, because it's not a kind of straightforward, like the ongoing case with Ali Hewson and others about the character of the area or amenities or things like that.
It actually goes a little bit deeper than that when you read what he was objecting to and on what grounds.
So it was for a wind farm off the coast of Galway and Clare and would have cost 1.4 billion euros.
So quite a big development for 30, what were described as Eiffel Tower sized turbines off the coast there in the West.
Tommy Tiernan, of course, has adopted that part of the world as his home in recent years.
So what he said was, I'm objecting to the proposed offshore wind farm near Karnakunamara County, Galway.
on the grounds of desecration of that area of natural beauty.
So along the lines of saying this is actually harming the, I suppose, the aesthetic beauty and the nature of the surrounding area.
And what he went on to say in the objection, culture is judged on how it protects areas and ideals such as this, allowing such a project to go ahead when there are many more suitable sites, either much further offshore or inland,
would be a totally irresponsible and disgusting thing to do.
There has to be more to our country than a utilitarian exploitation of where we live.
So quite strong terms, no uncertain terms in Tommy Tiernan's objection, how he feels about it and why it shouldn't go ahead.
He was one of 177 third parties to object to this particular development.
