Usually these games come down to who needs it more in the moment, two high-end teams.

And I don't know that either team needs it more than the other.

They're both chasing the one seed.

The Chiefs are coming on, obviously.

The Bills typically prove something to themselves and their fan base against mighty Kansas City, and they get it in the regular season.

The Chiefs are coming on, and they are the best team in the conference.

I'm taking them.

There might never have been an absence if Seattle had just stayed in the AFC in 2002 when the Texans joined the league, and it might have resulted in a bizarro version of the Malcolm Butler game featuring two would-be Steelers QBs.

Two, the NFL replaced the Oilers, who'd moved to Tennessee with the Houston Texans, and the Seahawks, in the name of balanced divisions, serving as the sacrificial lamb bouncing over to the NFC West.

Now, if we keep Seattle and the AFC West, someone's gotta go.

Rivalries be damned.

The real losers here, then, are the other members of the AFC South, because the division's new member is the Kansas City Chiefs, who'll be a real tough out once they draft a Texas Tech QB in 2017.

But that's still on the alternate reality horizon, so let's focus on the second decade of this century,

where Payton is transitioning from Colt to Bronco, and the AFC Hawks are on the rise with the Legion of Boom and their weak QB Russell Wilson, while over in the NFC, Sean Payton's bounty Gaten Saints aren't enough to stand in the way of Jim Harbaugh, Colin Kaepernick, and the 49ers.
