Minnesota's Attorney General Keith Ellison says he will fight President Trump in court if the president tries to invoke the Insurrection Act in response to ongoing protests of federal immigration officers in Minneapolis.
The demonstrations were sparked by last week's fatal shooting of a woman in her SUV by an officer with U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
That was followed by this week's wounding of a man in Minneapolis by another ICE agent.
The Department of Homeland Security says the latest incident began as a traffic stop involving a person from Venezuela who was in the U.S.
DHS says the officer was later attacked by the man and two others following a foot pursuit.
The Trump administration is ramping up pressure on local and state officials across the U.S.
to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.
As NPR's Joel Rose reports, it's raising legal questions about what the government can demand from local law enforcement.
