He was the sexy bassist, which is very rare in a band. And I think they would write together. That was my moment with Fall Out Boy. The other story I wanted to play was me, I guess, trying to take the piss out of the emo scene in New Zealand a little bit. Yeah, this is pretty cringe to look back on.

Now it's come to mean emotional. If you're an emo, you're more likely to hug your friend than give them a high five. And as for crying, not a problem. These days, emo is more commonly tied to fashion than to music, and is still a constantly changing beast.

Now emos come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and today, on Auckland's busy Queen Street, I'm going to try and find some. Now I'd just like to reiterate that I'm talking about emos, not emus. This is an emu, a flightless yet graceful creature, the second largest bird on the planet. They reach heights of one and a half to two meters and weigh around 60 kilos. This though is an Auckland emo.

You can tell because of the long fringe and tight pants. They're not always alone, often moving in packs and can be identified by their Chuck Taylor shoes. As to what they listen to on their iPods, it's a point of contention for the emos and the bands themselves.

Emo, emu. David Farrier, three news. I was going to say, at the time, I thought that was the funniest thing ever. You coming out of the bushes was pretty... Yeah, I mean, I was trying to do like an Attenborough, you know, like a nature documentary, but like focusing on the emo, you know?

And he ended up filing these deranged reports on the 10.30 news. And we got a lot of really angry feedback from emos about that, being like, that's so offensive. From emos? From emos. Yeah, emos. I just thought I was so funny making that comparison. I thought this was the funniest thing I've ever done. I love how serious you were doing that, too. Oh, deeply. Yeah, always. Yeah, deeply serious.
