I would say that I've grown into accepting that term to describe the band over the last 20 years. These days, I just embrace the descriptor. I love that. That was a really interesting social experiment. And very, oh my god. There's more.

Well, I know others have said we are emo and others have said we are pop punk, but I always thought of us as shittier versions of all the alternative, terrible name for an entire genre, bands who blew up in the wake of Nirvana in the early 90s. The shit I grew up on ranged from Pavement to Weezer to Swerve Driver to Flaming Lips to Superchunk to Jawbox, etc.
