part of the learning is not just to like look at someone and judge the way they are acting and be like they're this or that and i think part of it is we're not neurodivergent and if someone was treating us like that we would read into that differently yeah i think if you're not autistic it's a different we have a different read yeah on how things are yeah and it's interesting to think that like oh that actually is helpful

Yeah. Laurie wrote in, she said there are groupings of characteristics used to classify the diagnosis, but ultimately, if you've met one person with autism, you've met just one person with autism. One thing that stuck with me is something a psychologist told us during an initial evaluation of my son at age two. There have always been quirky people.

We just have a name for it now and we do not institutionalize them. When Lisa, who was the expert we spoke to in the episode, when Lisa said essentially the same thing in the episode, I was hollering, yes, thank you, much to the delight of my dog and the neighbors. Andy Roden speaking to kind of what you had spoken to before, Rob.

As a late diagnosed autistic person myself, I get the vibe that his girlfriend just wanted answers and to figure out how to best live and work with her boyfriend. Like having this answer opens up a whole new perspective on what his needs are and what adaptations can be made so that both of their needs are met in the relationship.

Gina said, Gina wrote in about, this is the kind of email we got about the telepathy tapes, which is like very typical. Be prepared to get your anti-woo-woo challenge by listening to the telepathy tapes podcast, which documents the way some non-verbal persons with autism can communicate via telepathy, mostly with each other and sometimes with their families and teachers. So fascinating.

The podcast delves into the nature of consciousness in general. Just to reiterate. Yeah. Terrible pseudoscience. Telepathy tapes. Don't listen to it, please. Jay said, I just listened to the autism episode. I just wanted to say thanks. I have a two year old who was diagnosed with autism at the end of last year. I feel really grateful and privileged to have access to the resources she needs.

I also have a teenager who is neurodivergent and I myself have been in the process of getting a diagnosis. Hearing stories from people on the spectrum and the people who love them has made such a difference during a time when I find myself still figuring it all out. I burst into tears when I heard the hook reference, There You Are, Peter.

I have struggled to articulate my feelings around getting the diagnosis for my little one, and this just hit home. Sorry for the long message, but I just had to thank you for doing this episode, especially during these insane times." And this is Autumn who spoke to what you were saying, Rob. Thanks for addressing the topic in a thoughtful way.

I wanted to defend and encourage the girlfriend at the autism reveal party. I was late diagnosed autistic at 40. It's helped me understand the world and my place in it a little better. I would not have survived my autistic tendencies in a neurotypical world without the kindness of blunt people. I can't read between the lines.
