yeah yeah Glenn Whelan was on off the ball breakfast this morning and Cullen Buick asked him like you know you know what's the difference between like friendlies and competitive matches and I think a lot of the players even spoke last night yeah it was hard to get yourself up after the crushing disappointment of the game last week but Glenn Whelan made the point and that like you know you're putting on the green jersey you're getting a chance to impress you're getting a chance to represent your country your family your teammates your coaches everyone has you know contributed to you to get to that position and

yeah i it was just yeah it was a strange i thought jason knight was maybe the yeah one of the standout players from last night but i just want to speak briefly about the player beside him last night jason malumby and his impact and is he now the second midfielder in beside josh cullen because he's been excellent i think since coming back into the team yeah i think so um i can remember talking a couple of weeks before the game against czech yeah and and

It's funny how quickly it kind of all changes.

I remember we talked about this in the office, the Luxembourg friendly last year, which again, we've completely forgotten about.

But I remember John Joe Patrick Finn came on in that game.

And it just shows you, even if the friendlies don't mean much at the time,

And those substitutions and those decisions you make to pick those particular players do affect things in the long term.

Like, could you imagine if Boston Lawal had maybe two caps or three caps?

And OK, maybe if he hadn't had the injury, he could have been involved last week.

And again, again, the game begins checking.

But he was on the bench that game.

I know he's only drafted into the squad that time because he's still playing 21s or whatever.

So there's fine margins there and at least last night we got to see him.

I thought at times he looked really, really good as in like his first touch and he linked up with Harvey Vale really nicely as well.

He made his debut, he's played for all the Irish underage teams the whole way up and you spoke to him last night?

Just interestingly, Glenn Whelan was very, very complimentary of him and thinks he will have a very high ceiling, I suppose, not just in the international game, but also for his club.
