Here's the thing.

This is the consensus of the film.

They live in a relatively wealthy area.

There's a private school there.

Tessa Thompson being one of the few black students, if not the only black student at this school.

Her mother getting her into this school because she is a maid for the upper class people there.

So even when she's introduced to the other students, they walk away and they say, oh, well, how do you know her?

And the girl says, oh yeah, she cleans our house.

These people, these kids are very nasty to this girl's mother.

And in turn, they become very nasty to her and another girl who's extremely overweight as a child.

And we already know that overweight children are always going to be the subject of bullying.

So they use Tessa Thompson's character as a young black woman.

They use her.

to bring this overweight girl over and basically proceed to bully her.

And then Tessa Thompson gets the blame because she brought her over.

She didn't know what they was finna do.

And this is why I tell niggas all the time, do not put your children in proximity to their oppressors and definitely don't make them the extreme minority in those spaces.

In this friend group is two white girls and of course an Asian girl.

So then you gotta be weary of the model minorities too, who wanna be the token, who wanna be the one that's included, who wants to assimilate to whiteness.

And even in adulthood, she still assimilates to whiteness and has gained power in that space.
