I've built a lot of rapport with the black inmates as I am one of the, as I am really one of the only officers who will help them.
And they look forward to me coming in due to the hatred, racism, and stereotyping that they experience on a daily basis, 24 hours a day.
Due to this, I feel like I'm making a difference.
However, am I a fraud?
Because I hear on a weekly basis, the white people I work with say some type of slur, some type of bias, or some type of downright disrespectful.
and the only thing I feel like I can do is smile and wave or laugh awkwardly as they joke so I don't lose access to... So I don't lose the access that I have to help those in need.
As reporting them will only shorten my time in the good boys club because the whites don't like it when the black man complains.
I say all this to say I have recently started trying to get my education in cybersecurity so I can get the fuck on and ASAP.
This job has a great schedule with me, only working half the year but making good money.
I guess my question is, should I keep going and eventually, after my education, just hit the streets as a patrol officer and try to make a difference in the streets or get my education and get away from law enforcement in general?
P.S., I have a baby on the way due June 2026.
Also, the main reason I have stayed so far is because I get to put my hands on white men with no repercussions.
Y'all stay safe, and thank you for reading.
Hey, look, I ain't gonna hold you.
I think you're in a good space.
Yeah, yeah.
You're not a fraud, nigga.
Listen, bro.
if we're going to push back against the monolith, the monolith is that all black men should be in the streets.
