I was really clear that I may not have enough time, so I needed to capitalize, and my goal was to create a brand for myself that went beyond the show.
And I was also keenly aware, as a person deeply invested in the humanity of trans people and the representation of trans people, that I might be the first trans person that someone would encounter on their television.
at the time, the conversation with and about trans people in the media was not the most humanizing, not the most enlightening to allow people to see us as human beings.
And so with whatever time I had and with whatever platform I had, I wanted to try to be a part of changing that conversation.
