They feed millions of people globally through their aid programs.
It's an organization that's supposed to be at the center of international law, stopping conflict.
But ultimately, the UN is just a vessel
For its member states, it's for 190 several countries.
These are the folks who call the shots.
And it's really a very small number who really call the shots.
It's the UN Security Council.
They have veto power.
It's the UK, France, the US, Russia, China.
And...
I think a lot of countries, a lot of people in the world would argue, should that be the club that gets to have a vote?
The deciding vote, not just a vote.
The deciding vote on all manner of things that shape the entire world and all of our lives and the course of conflicts and the fate of nations.
And that's why the UN fundamentally doesn't work.
It is a structure designed not to save the world.
It was designed to stop us having World War III.
It was designed to freeze the international system in 1945.
That's literally what it was for.
People misread the original functioning of the organization, and I misread it.
And that's why after I was at the UN for only like two, two and a half years, every day was deeply frustrating because I thought, there's a problem, there's a crisis, there's a disaster.
