I guess I'm shallow.

No, I think that it did ring true with the script.

I think I did have to say those lines because I think that that's the kind of person she is at the core, that she can leave it and she can accept the fact that she's going to be

leaving everybody permanently.

So in that case, I really think as I was just begging for help, and I got help.

In another scene, you know, I was also saying to the director, listen, this is overwritten.

This was a case where I thought, you know, I put on my director's hat, ha, ha, and I had to say these lines about this boyfriend that I had and how he went swimming and how I saw him drown in front of my eyes.

And I was just going, this is ridiculous.

I can't say this.

There's no way I'm going to say this because, frankly, it sounds fake.

It sounds like a speech.

And again, Jerry Zaks came up to me and said, no, Diane, you have to do it.

You have to try to do this and make it real for you.

I just said, this is impossible.

And, of course, you know, I did it.

And you know something?

I like it when I see it.

I actually like that.

I thought it was funny.

I somehow managed to get through it.
