What if we are building something we do not understand?
What if capability grows faster than control?
What if the first truly super-intelligent AI does not give us a second attempt?
You do not have to fully agree with him.
Many experts do not.
Some think he focuses too much on future extinction risk and not enough on present issues like bias, misinformation, privacy, copyright and job disruption.
Those issues are real.
But Yudkowsky argues that they are not the deepest risk.
They are problems caused by AI affecting society today.
His fear is what happens when AI becomes powerful enough to shape the future without us being able to correct it.
For beginners, the clean takeaway is this.
Do not confuse useful AI with safe AI.
A system can be impressive and still poorly understood.
It can be profitable and still risky.
It can be polite and still misaligned.
It can answer fluently and still be wrong.
That friendly tone can trick us.
AI says certainly and happy to help, and suddenly we treat it like a helpful intern.
but tone is not intention it is not loyalty it is not moral judgment it is text generation with a very good suit on so the practical lesson is not stop using ai that would be silly ai is useful it can help with writing research planning translation analysis and creative work
The lesson is, keep control.
