The noise was ghastly.

The sights horrible.

I mean, just, so they've got in land, they're stuck on the barbed wire and they're just being absolutely raked with machine guns.

So the Lancashire Fusiliers, they went to shore with 27 officers and 1,002 men.

They end the day with 16 officers and just 304 men.

But have they secured a foothold?

They have secured a little foothold.

I mean, they definitely got ashore.

So that's something.
