There was no internet.

Imagine trying to do things without... It's hard to...

explain to my boys that you couldn't just sort of sing a song and post it on instagram and be discovered you know you had to get signed and have a music deal and so many things had to fall did you perform the songs i did yeah i wrote them and sung them and um what was your style

I like to think I was really edgy at the time.

I wasn't.

I was very pop.

But I sort of compared myself at the time to Natalie and Bruglia and All Saints.

You know, it's when I was trying to pick myself up.

But really what it was for me was the lyrics.

I really enjoyed that ability to put into words lyrics.

In fact, I remember when people used to listen to my tapes as they were then or CDs, I used to stop it and make them listen to a line again because I think you're not listening.

I mean, how annoying is that?

How arrogant?

You have to listen to that line.

It's a really good line.

I don't care about the words.

I'm just, you know, seeing is it a good tune?

So for me, it was always the lyrics.

So I've always had that.

I've always loved that.
