Ben, Caleb, and Arden on the call for you once again.
Eric Smith, Chris LaRue, and Shoa Ali on the radio call.
It'll be 30-year-old righty Grant Holmes on the mound for Atlanta.
395 ERA over 11 starts, averaging a little over five innings per start.
The underlying metrics, a little mixed.
The expected ERA right in line with his ERA.
Fielding independent pitching says maybe he's been a little bit fortunate.
He has a decent strikeout rate and a decent walk rate.
Pretty league average, as you might expect for a guy with the ERA right around four.
He's been pretty steady, but the thing to watch here...
especially in game two of a series and with how difficult the back end of Atlanta's bullpen is, is Grant Holmes has only gone past the five inning mark four times in his 11th start.
So this is a guy you can get the pitch count up on and chase out of the game.
If that's your strategy, the Jays obviously did not get the pitch count up very often on Bryce Elder yesterday, particularly a couple of their top of the order hitters being over aggressive.
And look,
You got to look for your pitch, jump on it, and you don't want to get too passive.
But Grant Holmes is a guy you can chase out of the game earlier and hopefully get to the weaker part of the Braves bullpen because the back end is so tough.
He will throw a slider almost 50% of the time to righties, mix in a fastball and a sinker against lefties.
He'll still throw that slider 36% of the time, which is pretty unconventional for a righty to throw lefties a breaking ball that often, one that moves fast.
right to left on them.
He'll also throw them fastball, curveball, cutter, and changeup.
