We had a vague idea where we were going to go.
But we did say countries that we would like to go to, no matter how inappropriate.
I'm sure some of them didn't even have coastlines.
You know what I mean?
We were so sort of unfamiliar with the world and everything.
This is one of Dougal's complaints.
I have to take issue with Dougal over this because he gave up a professional life, as my mother did, in Hong Kong and went to the backward part of Britain and bought a farm and started farming in a rural environment.
We didn't even have a phone.
Until 1966, we did not even have a telephone.
We had paraffin lamps and candles, no electricity.
He bought us up in that environment.
and then blamed us for not being worldly, wise, and not understanding the world.
And excuse me, you put us there.
You put us there to start with.
You brought us up in that environment.
You can hardly blame us for being the product of your wishes.
I'll just say that.
I mean, he can't answer back now.
And probably just as well because he'd shout at you.
He'd shout his answer back at you.
