And I looked at that frigate bird and I said to my dad, they've got millions of years on us, dad.

And with those brains and those tools, we can bridge that gap.

And I just thought that is so far away.
There's not a chance.
Think about catching a fish with yourself.
I mean, it's bad enough when you've got all the gear.
You know, I mean, it just seemed so improbable.
And we were still thinking we should stay where we are, too, because rescue would come.
That's what it said in the survival manual.
But we didn't get an SOS off because the Lisette had sunk too quick.
So that wasn't really a reasonable proposition.
We would just stay there.
We would drift off to the west, out in the Pacific Ocean.
That would be the end of us.
But we made three important promises to each other in that moment.
And I'll tell you what they were.
