Am I the best person to make the call on this experience within my mind?
Or is it better to trust the professionals and people around me?
And on the whole, yes, people make mistakes and yes, people get things wrong.
But on the whole, people there to help you, they've got the trained experience to do so.
And they're often better placed.
I sat down actually...
my psychiatrist a couple of months ago and we were discussing medication and you know i'm in that position where i'm a doctor have some knowledge not a huge knowledge but decent amount of knowledge and i was there like debating this medication with her like oh i don't know is this a good idea and then i had this moment of like i'm sat here with a psychiatrist been doing this for 20 years and i'm trying to have too much input into what the best thing for me is and i sat there and said you know what
You're actually the person who's best placed to make this decision.
I'm going to trust you.
And I was absolutely right to do so because we were doing a medication switch.
The medication I've gone to is definitely infinitely better than the one I was on for me.
And so in that moment, I had to let go.
And when you're talking about things in the mind and challenges of the mind, the hardest thing to do is let go.
But the question I'd ask yourself is...
Has me trying to control the situation myself got me better or worse?
And in OCD, I guess the question is, has your lack of insight, has the way that you see things led you to a better or worse place?
And perhaps it's time to trust someone else.
So as hard as it can be, it's not about just completely letting go and having no
autonomy or questioning things you don't understand but i think it is realizing you know we do need to trust people and we do need to see that experts are experts for a reason dr alex on behalf of everyone grappling to understand their brains thank you so much thank you so much it's been great to be here again
If you combine ADHD and OCD, that's an even bigger recipe for disaster because you've got a brain that is impulsive, that is emotional, that can kind of jump to the worst case scenario with an obsessive compulsive brain.
