So tinnitus is usually an unusual or abnormal sound you can hear, usually like ringing in your ears.

So if you've been to a concert or heard a loud noise and your ears ring for a bit afterwards, but then resolve, that ringing is tinnitus.

But it could be a whooshing sound.

There's lots of different types of sounds.
