And we also have perseverance.
And when we combine the two, we can see an experience of being gritty.
So perseverance really is around our capacity to keep showing up.
our capacity to day in, day out, keep doing the hard work.
It means that, you know, when you fall off the horse, we get back up again.
It doesn't mean that we don't experience disappointment or failures or difficult times.
It means really that we just keep going despite that difficulty, despite that hardship that's there.
This is going to be very good.
So this is really about how we have stamina, how we stick to goals, how we stick to long-term goals in particular, and how we have a sense of passion and interest in the thing that we're pursuing.
I think that's a very common experience.
That is absolutely spot on and that is exactly what Dr Duckworth has found and that is that the most common characteristic amongst elite performers, high achievers, very successful people is this quality or characteristic of grit.
It's actually what can predict and often determine success over other factors like IQ and other influential environmental factors.
So this quality here actually is really around how we pursue excellence and how we can be our best selves really.
And what's so fascinating to me is this distinction between talent and excellence.
