And after I'd been talking about Thomas Aquinas, I have to tell you, Thomas Aquinas moved me.
I wanted sometimes, and I thought I was hiding it completely, I wanted to weep because of the appearance of the truth.
And I kept telling myself, oh, but it isn't really true.
It isn't really true.
It's just an appearance.

And a student came up to me after class once.
Texas students tend to be very polite.

And I say, yes.
And he says, um,
can I ask you a question?
I said, yeah, well, you can ask anything you want.
I might not answer it, but ask.
And he said, well, I've been listening to you since the semester began, and I figure you're either an atheist or a Roman Catholic, and I can't figure out which one.
I don't know.
Maybe because I was teaching Nietzsche, but on the other hand...
maybe my reactions didn't seem like those of a, that he might have expected from a Nietzschean.
I mean, it was eating me up, you know.
